Gall Bladder Wants Out

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!  How was my weekend you ask?

Well, Friday night I had the worst pain I have ever felt (EVER).  My whole chest was on fire and it spread around my chest through to my back.  After feeling this way for about three hours I realized that I needed to go to the hospital - I felt like I was having a heart attack.  I went to the ER at 11 pm Friday and was released at 6:30 am Saturday morning with the diagnosis of gall stones.  I have to have my gall bladder removed, they wanted to do it while I was there, but I just can't do it this week. I know that sounds crazy, but it is true, things are beyond crazy.  This is the worst time since all of the royalties are due Friday - there is no way around it.  I am the only person who knows how to complete royalties for our licensor.  Lame, I know.

Anyway, it got me to thinking that maybe it was good that I waited.  I mean this guy is like a trauma doctor - I am not very comfortable with him and his knowledge of the band.  I mean he just kept talking to me like a was a normal person - well, the truth is - I'm not.  So, I am followed his instructions and made an appointment for Thursday (his only office hours) to schedule the surgery.  However, I am also trying to contact Dr. Ren's office, I feel like she should know what's going on...

Has anyone else had their gall bladder removed post-band?  Please share - did a general surgeon perform the surgery or did your lap-band doc?

Thanks!

Personally I would want my band doc to do it. For 2 reasons actually...one he knows my body and my band and has proven that he is good with a laproscope and 2 while he was in there I would have him move my port lower..but that's just me. Hope you feel better and are having a good Monday.

I have had that pain and it is terrible! I haven't had my gallbladder removed so I can't give you any advice. Hope all goes well! Take care!

I had my GB removed in April by a general surgeon. Not much choice since my LB surgeon is 400 miles away and I needed that thing out NOW. Since my GB surgeon appeared to be 10 years old, I made sure I got the approval of my GP (she said he was one of the best) and my surgery-nurse sister-in-law and went ahead with the surgery two days after my first and only attack. I did threaten the surgeon with his life if he disturbed my band. ;) In actuality the band is pretty far away from the GB in terms of anatomy.

Sending good thoughts your way (hoping you don't have any more attacks prior to your surgery).

I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this! I hope that your surgery will go very smoothly.

I wanted to tell you that I looked for the jeans from your last post on my blog . . and think I figured out what size they are! If they are in the middle photo shown here, they are 18s from The Gap. Do you know the chain of bandsters between us? I'm wondering if they went from Mary to Kristen to you!

New follower here! I just had my gall bladder out last Wednesday, and I've had my band for three and a half years. I had a general surgeon do it -- but I knew he had some experience operating on people with bands before. Everything went very smoothly, and all my new incisions are on the right side of my belly where most of my banding ones were on the left. I'm covered now! LOL

Colleen--Sorry to hear about your gall bladder. I don't know the exact statistics but I bet at least a third of all LB people need to have the surgery.
I vote for your LB doctor doing the surgery . Don't wait too long---you don't want to have any infection or complications.

You're in my thought's!!!

Had mine out about a year post-op by my LB Doc. He actually did it with a single incision through the belly button (I had 5 incisions with the LB, but he's now doing the LB as a single incision too). No unfill or anything different for this surgery. Get it out soon before the pain starts again and feel better soon!

I agree..I think it's a good idea to let Dr. Ren know whats up and maybe she can do it or reccomend someone that may have some band knowledge ? I hope this gets resolved soon I and you feel better. Let me know if there is anything I can do!
